REVIEW- Heads: Vampire (The Coin Toss #1) by Cheyenne Meadows #5stars

Charlotte believes love only exists in fairy tales, but agrees to attend a New Year's Eve party as a favor to a friend. A coin toss saddles her with a snobbish, immaculate vampire with a big ego, one who makes her grind her teeth. Yet, she can't pass up the golden opportunity to pester him with silly questions.

Ethan can't believe he's set up with a human female, one with horrendous taste in interior decorating and a quirky inquisitiveness that pricks at his final nerve. Unfortunately, the cards are stacked against him from the moment they meet. Danger and disaster bring them together, forcing them to lean on one another for survival.

Can they move past their vast species differences and find true love?

REVIEW:
"Heads: Vampire (The Coin Toss #1) by Cheyenne Meadows is a sweet read. As with many of her books, her humor and quick wit shine through and blend wonderfully with the passionate picture she paints. My only criticism is that the book was not longer.
Char wasn't too thrilled about being set up on a blind date, let alone one with the vampire but being the trooper that she was, she dressed up in the best clothes she had and headed out for what she hoped was a memorable night.
Ethan still has no clue how he was roped into his brother Deacon's girl friend's blind date scheme.Being an a pure blood from a prestigious lineage and a pretty big deal of a lawyer let alone a cabinet member for upholding their laws, Ethan had little time for humans. He was a pureblood and his interest was only in other purebloods. The night was sure to be a disaster.
This is a story of opposites attract and how even the smallest creatures can bring the humility out of anyone, including an over 200 year old stuck up vampire. I highly recommend this book.

REVIEW: Male-Order Catalogue by Fleeta Cunningham #Western #Historical #Romance

While ordering a birthday gift from a mail order catalog, Lavinia Cates remembers her sister's comment that life would be easier if one could just order a beau the same way. She contemplates the idea and, on a whim, fills out a fantasy order for the handsome gent in the cashmere mackintosh on another page. In 1900, a spinster of 24 has little hope of marriage, but with Matt Holland, the handsome railroad agent, taking an interest in her, Lavinia might change her expectations.

When he’s not courting Lavinia, Matt hunts for train robbers, tries to stop the notorious Jessups from selling homemade “white lightnin’,” and partners with a Texas Ranger. Along the way he learns why he was warned that Texas ladies have a lot of determination—and are handy with shotguns.

REVIEW:
RATING: 4.5 Stars

It has been a very long time since I read a Western/Historical Romance as well-written and enjoyable as ‘Male-Order Catalogue’.  And despite the amusing title, the book is not a romantic comedy; there’s serious romance, mystery, and suspense along the way.

It’s 1900, and in Santa Rita, Texas, Lavinia Cates is feeling very sad and lonely – her parents are long dead; one sister is now in New York, living with their cousin; the youngest sister, Lilah Rose, has just run off to marry a young man from a very reprehensible family; and Lavinia, at 24, is facing spinsterhood.  She definitely isn’t happy about Lilah’s marriage, but she refuses to just turn her back.  She decides to order Lilah a gift, and finds a nice item in the 1900 Sears Roebuck catalog. Then she remembers a whimsical conversation about being able to order a beau in the same way. To try to cheer herself up, she fills out a fake order, for a very attractive man modelling a mackintosh, figuring it’s something she can look at in the days ahead, and laugh.

It’s now approaching Christmas. In Chicago, Pinkerton agent Matt Holland is spending some time with an old friend, who just happens to be an executive of Sears Roebuck. They share a little laugh about an order the company recently got, for a man modelling a mackintosh.  The company returned the woman’s check, along with a message saying that the requested ‘product’ was no longer available.  Matt laughs again, when he learns where the order came from: Santa Rita, Texas.  That’s where he’s heading next, to pose as a railroad agent while he investigates a series of thefts.  Once there, he can’t quite resist looking for the woman who placed the order - someone named Lavinia Cates. By accident, this was the order Lavinia sent, instead of the one for Lilah’s gift.

So a romance begins, weaving through Lavinia’s worries about her sister, and Matt’s hunt for the robbers.  Everything is very appealing and skillfully executed, moving along at a good pace: the entrancing romance, the suspenseful search for the thieves, and varied interactions with the people of Santa Rita.  Lavinia and Matt are wonderfully drawn, and most of the other characters are interesting and believable as well.  I enjoyed reading this book, enough to rate it well worth 4.5 stars.

I am very grateful for the reviewer’s copy I was sent.

Avelyn is trying to put her life back together after a horrific experience and an abusive relationship. Thrace is a warrior and a new dad. Neither of them ever contemplated a relationship but one forms. I absolutely fell in love with this latest installment of the Intergalactic Brides Series by Jessica Coulter Smith. The story is tender, endearing, sensual, and passionate. I couldn't help getting a little misty eyed over the the strength of Avelyn, her immediate nurturing love of little Lily, the complications that she and Thrace face, and the love that grows between the both of them. It is the science fiction version of a story worthy of a Hallmark movie. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend this book.

REVIEW: The Salvation State by Marcus Damanda #Dystopian #YA

“This is what the truth is. Second Salvations murdered my parents, and I’m running away.”

A single post over unregulated Internet channels. A sleeping society awakens to a chase, broadcast live on television screens all across the New United States of America...

Rebecca and Daniel have never met. A fifteen-year-old preacher’s kid and a sixteen-year-old atheist outcast, they appear to have little in common. And yet they have both attracted the attention of a recruiter for Angel Island, where bad kids go to be remade—or destroyed.

Agents of the all-powerful New America Unity Church will stop at nothing to get them. They’re building an army, a modern children’s crusade, in which Rebecca and Daniel may be just the kind of future leaders they need.

If not, they might be just the kind of sacrifice necessary to keep the rest of the faithless in line.

There are very few times when I am not reading at least one book in my life. Recently I have spent my time reading books over again while waiting for something new to catch my attention. Even with numerous books available, I hadn't found anything I really wanted to read and not put down in many months. Yesterday, however, I started reading The Salvation State  by Marcus Damanda and was drawn into a future world that refused to let me go until I finished. Rebecca and Daniel are both very well written characters, you can't help liking them and wanting them to succeed. The other characters surrounding them, gave greater life to the main characters, bringing more depth to their stories. this book will be one I am sure I will re-read and add to my collection. Mr. Damanda has written a captivating novel, and I am looking forward to reading more of his work as soon as possible.

When I chose this book, I hoped that I would like it. I didn't just like it; I loved it. "Carpathian Blood" is not your typical Dracula romance story and I loved the fresh twist that Michelle Hoefle put on it. Vlad and Mack's chemistry is off the charts. This is a panty scorcher for sure but it is so much more. There is a really great story-a plot full of twists and turns that makes this a great thrill ride to read. I highly recommend this book. Is a "MUST READ".

REVIEW:
RATING: 4.5 Stars

This novelette is one of the best shape shifter stories I have ever read – and since I am very interested in this topic, I’ve read a LOT of shifter stories.

‘Queen of the Hollow’ is a beautifully written romance intertwined skillfully within a nicely drawn shifter culture, set in West Virginia.  Calla is a young, solitary female mountain lion shifter, going into ‘heat’ for the first time since her mother died, and it was always her mother who protected her from all the demanding males in their rather isolated mountainous region.  Understandably, she’s quite frightened, and not really sure just how she’s going to protect herself alone, or even if she can.

But around a year earlier, another shifter, Haben, a leopard, met Calla in human form, and became very interested in her.  He has come to her cabin, hoping to finally get to know her better.  Calla has already been injured, and there are quite a few males circling around in the woods.  She doesn’t know Haben very well, but at least she had met him previously, however briefly, and the circumstances lead her, reluctantly at first, to accept his help.

The courtship happens in intervals between attacks, as Calla and Haben get to know each other in both forms.  Heat builds rapidly, and there is definitely romance all through the intense fighting.    As you read, you know these two must come together, and you will not be disappointed.  Make no mistake: ‘Queen of the Hollow’ is not novel-length, but it IS a complete story, very tightly written, covering the backgrounds and personalities of both Calla and Haben, the structure of their shifter society, which has many original elements, and the development of their romance.  However, even though this story was complete, I admit I would love to read a sequel.

I enjoyed it very much, and give it a 4.5 Star rating.

I am very grateful for the reviewer’s copy that was sent to me.

Bite Me is a sinfully decadent bite that will have you drooling for more. Magnus and Caroline are two sexy spitfires that combust when they come together. This story by Michelle Roth had it all-passion, a good dose of naughtiness, romantic comedy, a fang boy to die for, a heroine that is far from being a damsel, and an informative look at what pairs well with Gin. I loved this book and I have read it twice. I can't wait for the next book in her Transfigured Series. LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!

REVIEW:
RATING: 4.5 Stars

‘Rustlers and Romance’ is a comfortable, enjoyable, and just plain fun romance, involving a Michigan woman, Lauren McCray, on the run to escape her abusive husband, and Chase Montgomery, a Wyoming horse rancher.  They meet at Rosie’s Diner, in Saddle Creek, Wyoming. Lauren has taken a waitress position, and Chase is on the way home from a horse sale, tired and wanting a quick meal.  But Clint, Lauren’s husband, is still looking for her, and she spots him outside the diner, examining her car. Desperate to stay ahead of him, she hides in Chase’s vehicle, and ends up at Jack of Aces, his ranch, which becomes her refuge.

This is only the start of their relationship because now they’re both facing a variety of threats: Lauren’s angry husband, still searching for her, and a valuable item she brought with her; Chase’s housekeeper, an angry young neighbor who wants Chase for herself, and can be pretty nasty about it; rustlers who have been stealing horses from the ranch, and are willing to kill along the way; and the possibility that someone is also trying to force Chase off his ranch.

The story is well planned, with interesting friendly relationships as well as the growing romance, skillfully balanced with mystery and danger.  Lauren and Chase feel like your personal friends, and you really want them to come together.  This is, after all, the goal of a romance novel, but the dangers the characters face are compelling, and very believable.  Along the way, there are questions about just who all the villains are, and why they are doing these despicable things.  This was all put together in a very interesting fashion.

There were a few segments that could have used more space and detail, but overall the book was well worth reading, so I give it 4.5 points. I will be recommending it to certain friends of mine who also like well-planned suspense as part of a good romance story.  If you like the pairing of romance and mystery, ‘Rustlers and Romance’ should definitely be on your list.

I am very grateful for the reviewer’s copy I was sent.

REVIEW: Red's Wolf Series: Grimm Woods Book One by Arianna Archer

The deeper the woods, the darker the secrets...

Arden Wilde is at the top of her game. She's got a gorgeous, attentive boyfriend on the fast track to a promising medical career, she attends the best culinary school in the nation—the Culinary Institute of America in New York, and is nearly finished with her externship with an eminent chocolatier. But when she's called home to Grimm Lake, California to help care for her ailing grandmother, Arden agrees without hesitation.

Running through the woods becomes one of her passions, and she runs every day on her way to help care for her grandmother. Until she meets the enigmatic Tate Foster, the darkly handsome, tattooed manager of the Little Bear Brewing Co., sunbathing nude by the path to the lakeshore. He invites her to swim with him, but Arden declines—she has a boyfriend, after all. But it isn't long before thoughts of Tate become more than she can ignore.

When she mentions him to her grandmother, she's given a stern warning. The Fosters are "old Grimms," from one of the original founding families in the town, who keep mostly to themselves. There are legends, ugly stories, about the old families and their Germanic roots, and about the Grimm wolves—shapeshifters who lived double lives as wolves and humans. Arden doesn't believe a word of her grandmother's fairy tales, until a night of Tate's fierce, skilled sexuality drives all rational thought from Arden's mind.

When a tourist is found murdered in the woods, savaged by animals, Arden isn't sure what to believe. She knows she can never go back to her old boyfriend in New York. And the brazen, feral Tate has no intention of letting her go anywhere...

Red's Wolf is RED HOT! I thought I was going to get some spin off of the fairy tale but this is NO SPIN OFF. This book stands alone and was a red hot intense read. Not only did it have one heck of a love triangle but the chemistry between Arden and Tate was sensual, wild, passionate, and untamed. It had me re-reading as soon as I ended the book. I wish it had been longer it was just THAT GOOD! I highly recommend adding this book to your reading library like ASAP! Red's Wolf has everything a steamy hot paranormal romance needs to be a great story. Well done Arianna Archer! Well done!

REVIEW: Rise by Mary Cox

Drop-dead gorgeous alive, Matt Brenner had never lacked for feminine attention. Undead, he’s even more potent. Immortality would be stellar, if only he accepted his life as a vampire. Matt and fellow vamp, Richard Hiatt, have created a BDSM empire catering to vampire/Doms and willing donor/subs who trade sexual ecstasy for blood. The clubs have made Matt’s existence manageable, if uninspired. Inspiration comes in the form of Catherine Temple, a beautiful and trusting co-ed, he feels obliged to rescue from a wanna-be Dom.

Matt’s made it a rule not to get emotionally involved with human women, and he sticks to it. Cat is the woman who can entice him to break all the rules. Almost one hundred years as an immortal in Los Angeles has left him wrecked by his decadent lifestyle. Paralyzed by a terrible sense of ennui, he hungers for a lost passion for life. That is, until he meets a young woman who inflames every inch of his passion.

Rise by Mary Cox is definitely a book to add to your TBR lists. I absolutely LOVED the book. I loved the plot, the steamy and sensual scenes that oozed passion, the chemistry between Matt and Cat, and even Ms.Cox's take on vampires. The story was well balanced and never lost me at all. The BDSM element to the story was tastefully and respectfully done and complimented the real love story that was unfolding between Cat and Matt. It was sweet yet passionate.

Get ready and hold on tight because you're getting ready to go on one heck of an adventure ride. This is not Disney's "Peter Pan" but a steamy, passionate, and adventure story for adults. J.M. Barrie would have never imagined "Rise of the Lost Prince" when he wrote his children's book. "Rise of the Lost Prince" had me absorbed and obsessed through each page. I literally could not put it down because the story captivated me right from the prologue on through to the end. I can literally not wait until I can get a hold of the next book from London Saint James. She has scored an epic Babe Ruth kind of home run with "Rise of the Lost Prince". This is a must read with an URGENT MUST READ attached to it. LOOOVED this book!

Available at: http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Death-Chrys-Fey-ebook/dp/B00V5B46I0

REVIEW:
RATING:  4.5 Stars

‘Ghost of Death’ is an interesting murder mystery, with the ghost of the victim, a university student named Jolie, following the police detective, Avrianna Heavenborn, who’s in charge of the case.  Moving one step, or one clue, at a time, they go through all the important moments of Jolie’s last night, as Avrianna talks to the grieving mother, Jolie’s boyfriend, and her roommate, and the other friends the couple had gone out with that evening.

Now, the mystery itself isn’t terribly complicated, but you get to watch a particularly gifted detective carefully work her way through her case, eliminating each suspect along the way, always accompanied by Jolie’s ghost.  Since the story doesn’t start until Jolie first realizes that she is dead, and she can’t remember what happened, you have no way of predicting ahead of time who killed her or why, so you end up solving the murder exactly as Detective Heavenborn does.  I found this intriguing, and it held my attention from beginning to end.

The characters are all believable, including Jolie’s ghost, and the way everything is presented gave me an empathic connection to the tale that I don’t always get in a murder mystery.  The presentation drew me in, and wouldn’t let go, even after I’d finished the story – I found myself drawing mental pictures of the memorial service, of how the friends recovered, if they recovered.  For a short story, ‘Ghost of Death’ made a serious impression on me, and I truly enjoyed reading it.  In fact, I’ve already gone through it a second time.

I give this book 4.5 stars, and recommend it to anyone who likes short mysteries, with a nice suggestion of romance along the way.  I wouldn’t have minded it being a little longer, with a few more details or perhaps a mistaken step along the way; with that, I would probably have given it 5 stars.

I am very grateful for the reviewer’s copy I was sent.
