NEW REVIEW: The Pirate's Revenge by Sarita Leone

Still grieving the loss of her father, Mary Sweet finds solace strolling the seashore at Quinn Beach. There she meets a handsome stranger who seems to share her sadness. He is utterly alone in the world, and praying to assuage his grief with this change of scenery.

Revenge is a strong motivator, especially for a man who's been mistreated his whole life. The promise of pirate's gold colors Henry Titchell’s view--yet not so much that he can't see the beauty in Miss Mary Sweet. But while Henry is a stranger to Lobster Cove, he has not “stumbled” upon the place as he would have Mary believe. Instead he seeks retribution rather than rest

When Mary realizes the newcomer is not who he seems, will her heart be willing to forgive his sins?

REVIEW:
RATING: 4 Stars

When I’m looking at historical fiction/romance, and see a title that mentions ‘pirates’, I have to admit I think first of action-adventure, and ships at sea.  Well, Leone’s ‘Pirate’s Revenge’ isn’t like that, but I definitely was NOT disappointed.  This book is a warm and touching love story, about two sad souls on a small island, during the historical age of piracy, but with no dramatic battles.

In the village of Lobster Cove, along Quinn Beach, Mary Sweet is mourning for her recently deceased father, sad enough that she sometimes feels a need to get away from her family and her household chores, and spend time on the quiet beach.  One day there, she meets another sad individual strolling by. Henry Titchell says little about himself, his family, his past, or where he came from, telling Mary only that he is completely alone. He has no family, no home, nothing.  Mary is so sympathetic to his situation that she doesn’t worry much about details. She has no idea that he’s actually seeking retribution for what he’s lost, some revenge for his suffering, and believes he can find it in Lobster Cove.

Henry finds a job, including food and living quarters, with the local blacksmith, and gradually settles in.  Some residents have questions about his intentions, but his hard work and quiet behavior soon earn him acceptance.  Mary becomes a friend, sharing conversations either down on the beach, or outside her family home; her mother, sister, and brothers like him too.  He asks occasional questions, but not enough to cause trouble; most of the details about what he is actually seeking are revealed only in his thoughts.  But, as his relationship with Mary grows, he begins to question himself.  Which is worth more, a pirate treasure and revenge for all he has suffered, or this relationship?  Will he lose everything when she learns why he really came to Lobster Cove?

This is a nice romantic tale about two attractive, interesting individuals who finally have a chance at the happiness of love, in a quiet historical setting.  I found it well-written, and very enjoyable, definitely worth a 4 Star rating.

I am grateful for the reviewer’s copy I received.

NEW REVIEW: I Knew You Were Trouble by Vera Roberts

Rekindling the flame or just keeping each other company?

When Julian Rodriguez has to stay behind and attend to business matters, Kaia McCrae offers him the option to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with her and her family. Julian returns the favor by requesting her presence as he visits New York to see his family. While the pair has told their families their relationship is just platonic, no one quite buys what the music pair is selling.

Will the former lovers finally get past their issues and rekindle their romance? Or will it be business as usual?

I Knew You Were Trouble is a New Adult romance that deals with second chances, forgiveness, and renewed love.

REVIEW:
RATING: 4 Stars

‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ is, overall, a comfortable, relaxing, “feel-good” romance.  The couple at the center of the story, Kaia McCrae and Julian Rodriguez, are interesting and, for the most part, sympathetic characters.  Julian is at the head of a growing music company, where Kaia has worked ever since college, starting with an internship.  Their romance actually goes back almost that long.

Things then were beautiful, both passionate and compassionate, friendly and trusting, and they were both excited about their coming child.  But when Kaia lost the baby, things crumbled, neither of them understanding what the other needed or felt, and the romance died.  Kaia valued her professional position, and Julian valued her competence, so she stayed at her job.  Their work relationship was friendly, and they both told everyone that things were platonic, neither one acknowledging the attraction that remained.  Then, one year, Julian decides not to go home for Christmas, because of work, and Kaia invites him to spend a few days of the holiday with her and her family, only platonic, of course.  Afterwards, they both head across country to spend some time with Julian’s family, again platonic, officially.

The family relationships show a lot about both Julian and Kaia, their pasts and their hopes for the future. And many relatives, on both sides, hope the pair will get back together.  But can these two cope with their painful memories and shed their fears enough to begin rebuilding what they’d lost?

Most of the relatives, and co-workers, are pleasant, likeable people (with a few very minor exceptions), and all the familiar family and holiday scenes generate a comfortable feeling I think most readers will recognize and enjoy.  Once you’re past the introductions to Kaia and Julian, I think it would be difficult not to understand and sympathize with their individual hopes and dreams. All of this has been constructed neatly enough for most readers to develop some hopes for them as well.

There are a few things about the family situations that I would have liked to read more about, and some sequences I wish were longer, but overall, reading this story was an enjoyable experience.  I rate ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ as worth 4 stars, and am very grateful for the reviewer’s copy I was sent.

NEW REVIEW: Taken By Storm by LJ Vickery

Anshar is god of the sky...but he's also something much more dangerous. Terrified for the safety of the woman he would call his own, he denies his attraction to keep her safe and the monster inside of him at bay. A battle is coming between the gods of the Blue Hills and the puritans who would destroy his kind before the gods can find their Chosen—mortals who are not just mates, but who can make the gods corporeal once more.

Lenore Crest is drawn to the taciturn god against her better judgment and in spite of the hateful lessons she's always been taught about his kind by the leader of a secret puritan society. Opening her heart to Anshar would be a betrayal to her people, and loving him could put everyone in danger.

Can their relationship survive in spite of his secrets and her misplaced allegiances?

REVIEW:
RATING: 4.5 Stars

Taken by Storm by LJ Vickery is an intense, sensual, passionate, and hot novel in her Immortals series.
Anshar is the great Sky God and he's more than dangerous but he's got more to worry about than unleashing his immense powers and her name is Lenore. Captured by Dagon, Anshar is bound to the fierce hell kitten named Lenore. Lenore is a warrior and she's a lethal advasary. She's definitely not the damsel in distress type of woman and being bound to one of the immortal gods was not in her plan. Lenore is torn between everything she's been taught to believe and what her heart wants sets Anshar on a mission to not only earn Lenore's trust but her love as well. Both of them have secrets that could cost them their new found love but also their lives and those they care about.
I loved this book. Anshar and Lenore are well balanced in chemistry and temperment. She's a strong female character with a softness to her. Anshar is a strong male with a gentle heart that will make any reader swoon and root for him and Lenore. This is a must read.

NEW REVIEW: Rock Hard by LJ Vickery

Marduk, Mesopotamian god of thunder, has been invisible for hundreds of years, his punishment for leaving an entire civilization to wither and die...all for the love of a woman. She lights his formerly passionless form on fire, but he'll have to battle more than the gods who placed him and his brothers in this purgatory to win her heart and her body. Some demons must be faced to be defeated, even if they are hers.

Tess has straightened her life out. That means no alcohol, no risk, and most of all NO MEN! But this god-like creature she first sees naked on the beach makes her forget the horrors wrought by another and consider the passion zinging through her veins. Can she take such a risk again without sacrificing her sobriety and her life?

REVIEW:
RATING: 5 Stars

Rock Hard by LJ Vickery is an awesome, passionate, and adventurous read as the first book in her Immortals Series published by Wild Rose Publishing.
Marduck, the God of Thunder, has become corporal after centuries of being invisible with his other immortal "brothers". Tess has had a hard life and is in no hurry to restart her love life; until she sees who has to be the most handsome man  on the planet running along the  beach with nothing more than a loin cloth.  When he sees her, the look in his eyes sends her running. Marduck is relentless in his pursuit of Tess but can he win her love and trust? Can he keep her safe from a God and a society bent on destroying the Immortal Gods before they find their Chosen females?
Marduck and Tess's chemistry is off the charts; explosive. Tess is a relatable character and her strength will reach out to readers everywhere. Marduck's gentleness and sensuality is a seduction but there is a lot more to this pretty boy than great looks and off the charts sex appeal.

I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read the series.

Winter has never been so sexy or fun than with the sensually hot adventure that awaits in LJ Vickery's Frozen Stiff. Enten is the God of Winter and has found his Chosen mate in a human female named Glory who is more than his match in so many ways. Glory is an independent spit fire who is determined to make Enten as much hers as she already is to him but Enten's fear of harming her with his Sub Zero chill is enough to keep Glory at arm's length. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and when they band together with the other Gods and Goddesses to save their queen, it is one heck of a ride. This is a must read.
